1. Toothpaste

 Toothpaste

Toothpaste works splendidly when it comes to cleaning stains. Apply a non-gel toothpaste on a cotton swab and gently massage it over the stain on your skin. Leave it for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a washcloth soaked in warm water.

2. Soap

Soap

Washing the part of the skin stained with soap and water should be enough to remove the stains. We’d suggest you to do this right after you’re done coloring your hair.

3. Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing Alcohol

Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and gently dab it on your skin till the stain is removed. Then, wash it off with soap and water. Since rubbing alcohol can make the skin dry, therefore, do not use this if you have sensitive skin.

4. Makeup Remover

Makeup Remover

Just like a makeup remover can remove makeup from your face, it can also remove stains from your skin. Put on some makeup remover on a cotton pad and gently rub it on your skin to remove the stains. Rinse it afterward.

5. Baby Oil/Olive Oil

Baby Oil/Olive Oil

This is probably the best option if you have sensitive skin, however, it may not be that effective. Apply some oil to the stained part and let it sit for as long as you can. Afterward, rinse it with soap and water to get the oil and hair dye completely out of your skin.

6. Nail Polish Remover/Acetone

Nail Polish Remover/Acetone

This can work finely on hand stains, however, it is recommended not to use it on your face and such sensitive parts of your skin. Take some nail polish remover on a cotton pad and apply it to the stained skin. Rub it for a while (not more than 30 seconds!) and then wash it off thoroughly with soap and water.

7. Dish Soap and Baking Soda

Dish Soap and Baking Soda

Mix some gentle dishwashing soap with baking soda and form a paste. Gently rub this over the skin stains and then wash it off thoroughly with warm water. Once again, it is recommended to not use this on your face and such sensitive skin parts, as it may lead to irritation and damage to your skin.

Measures To Prevent hair color stains

Measures To Prevent hair colour stains

Like we’ve been taught right from school, prevention is always better than cure. Therefore, let’s look into the measures - before you jump the guns and get balayages, highlights, lowlights, money pieces or a global hair color, to prevent your skin from getting stained. (oh and you can follow these while applying permanent hair colors, too!)

  1. Apply petroleum jelly to your hairline to prevent it from getting stained.
  2. Wear old, discarded clothes or cover your clothes up with a discarded cloth to avoid them getting stained.
  3. Wipe up any spills right away to avoid stains.

Follow all these steps to avoid getting stains. Now that you know what to do if your skin gets stained while coloring your hair, as well as how to prevent skin stains while hair coloring, we hope you won’t hold yourself back from getting pretty hair colors!
